Terms of Service

Service description
AudLit is a browser-based audiobook production platform. It provides manuscript import, recording with teleprompter, automatic best-take selection, audio mastering, and collaboration tools. AudLit runs primarily in your browser using the File System Access API — your audio recordings and your original manuscript files (DOCX, PDF, EPUB, etc.) stay on your computer. When you import a manuscript, AudLit extracts the paragraph text in your browser and sends only the extracted text to our servers; the original file is never uploaded. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Account responsibilities
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must provide a valid email address and accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use AudLit to produce content that is illegal, infringes on the intellectual property rights of others, or violates applicable laws. You may not attempt to interfere with the service, reverse-engineer its systems, or use automated tools to access it in ways not intended.
Intellectual property
You own all rights to your manuscripts, recordings, and finished audio files. AudLit claims no ownership, license, or rights to any content you create or import, except as narrowly described in the “Feedback you submit to us” section below. The AudLit platform, its code, design, and branding are the property of A Musical Life, Ltd.
Manuscript rights
You represent and warrant that you hold the rights necessary to process the manuscripts you import through AudLit. Several AudLit features send portions of manuscript or transcript text to a third-party AI provider for processing — chapter and heading detection, character detection, cleanup-feedback analysis, phonetics generation, accent overlay, and PDF title cleanup. By importing a manuscript and using these features, you confirm you are authorized to do so.
If a third party brings a claim against AudLit alleging that your use of the service infringed their copyright in a manuscript you imported, you agree to indemnify AudLit against direct damages and reasonable legal costs arising from that specific claim. This indemnity is limited to claims actually caused by content you imported; it does not extend to claims arising from AudLit's own conduct or product defects.
AI-assisted features
Several AudLit features use third-party AI models to assist with manuscript processing: chapter and heading detection during import, PDF title cleanup, character detection, cleanup-feedback analysis, phonetics generation, and accent overlay. AI-generated outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent. You are responsible for reviewing AI-generated structure, character assignments, phonetic guides, and feedback categorizations before relying on them. AudLit does not warrant the accuracy of any AI-generated output.
Feedback you submit to us
AudLit lets you submit cleanup-issue reports when the cleanup pipeline produces a result you believe is incorrect. As described in our Privacy Policy, these reports contain only locator metadata, your local audio filename, and any free-text description you choose to write.
By submitting a cleanup-issue report, you grant AudLit a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use the locator metadata and the description you wrote for the purposes of investigating the issue and improving the cleanup pipeline. This license is limited to the contents of the report itself. It does not grant AudLit any rights in your manuscript, your recordings, or any other content you have not explicitly submitted as feedback.
Beta features
Some AudLit features are marked as beta or are available only to specific accounts. These features may change, become unavailable, or behave unpredictably without notice. Current beta features include the Auditions workspace (limited to allowlisted accounts) and the DFN3 noise-reduction option in mastering.
Beta-feature outputs are not warranted for compliance. The DFN3 noise-reduction option is not validated against ACX delivery specifications; the default RNNoise path is. If you deliver audio produced with a beta feature to a platform with technical-compliance requirements, you are responsible for verifying the result independently.
Payment terms
Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Per-book hour packs are one-time purchases that never expire — unused hours carry over even if you later subscribe to or cancel an annual plan. Annual subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date. If you delete your account, all server-side data is removed, including any remaining purchased hours. Your recordings are stored locally on your computer and are never affected by account changes or deletion. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact us within 14 days of purchase if you are unsatisfied.
Limitation of liability
AudLit is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for any data loss, interruption of service, or damages arising from your use of the platform. Because your audio recordings are stored locally on your computer, you are responsible for maintaining your own backups.
Copyright complaints (DMCA)
AudLit complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you believe that content stored on AudLit infringes your copyright, you may submit a written notice of claimed infringement to our designated agent. Your notice must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or someone authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
- Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it (a project identifier, chapter, or paragraph reference is sufficient).
- Your contact information — address, telephone number, and email.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Send your notice to our designated agent:

Upon receipt of a valid notice, we will remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing material and notify the user who uploaded it. If you believe material was removed in error, you may submit a counter-notice to the same agent meeting the requirements of 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3). We terminate the accounts of users who are determined to be repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Termination removes your server-side data (project metadata, parsed manuscripts, transcription cache, annotations, vocabulary, voice-library entries, submitted reports, diagnostic logs) within the timeframe described in the Privacy Policy. Your local audio files are unaffected.
Modifications
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of AudLit after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will notify users of material changes via email.
